Light

Standard

Close your eyes,

Feel the wind,

See the journey,

About to begin.

Clear the thoughts,

That distract your mind,

Release the guilt,

And be more kind.

Take a breath,

Slow things down,

Take in the beauty,

That’s all around.

Place your hand,

Upon your chest,

Breathe again,

Dispel unrest.

Shout so loud,

It hurts your ears,

Embrace your dreams,

Release the fear.

Go outside,

And feel the Sun,

Warm your heart,

With a day begun.

Take a step,

Start the journey,

Open your mind,

Begin the learning.

Feel the tingle,

That discomfort brings,

A change of seasons,

Your life in Spring.

Give it time,

Wait things out,

Don’t lose patience,

Resist the doubt.

For in your dreams,

There’s much in store,

The life you want,

Is there, and more…

All you need,

To simply do,

Is close those eyes,

And trust in you.

For in your heart,

Is all you require,

To fill your hopes,

And every desire.

And tomorrow will be,

Another day,

To chase those fears,

And doubt away.

But now’s the time,

To pause and smile,

Even if those dreams,

Do take a while.

For in due time,

You’ll reach your goal,

And fill those parts,

To make you whole.

But for today,

Please see the light,

That following your heart,

Is always right…

For the hope it takes to journey towards our dreams…

When Morning Dawns

Standard

How difficult it is, to see the path,

In the middle of the night,

We fumble to find our way, at times,

To take a step that’s right.

And faith can be so challenging then,

To believe, what we can’t see,

To journey through the dark and fear,

In the hopes that we’ll be free.

And when we close our eyes and think,

The thoughts and worries may come,

And strip away the beliefs we have,

Until it feels, that there are none.

Yet this is where, we need some hope,

To look Above, and to believe,

While letting ourselves, release the pain,

And permitting our hearts, to grieve.

For God is in the midst of us,

Even when our thoughts have strayed,

And hope feels like a bitter pill,

Of dreams that were betrayed.

Yet in that Grace, we find some strength,

So we shall not be moved,

And spirits rise, to meet the dark,

With faith, in Him, renewed.

And all we need to do, my friend,

Is take another step,

And feel the life, within ourselves,

That draws a careful breath.

And when we give ourselves the time,

We’ll see that dew upon the lawn,

For God will help, to get us through,

Until the morning dawn.

For the times we need to close our eyes, take a breath, and let faith guide our steps…

Destiny

Standard

Sometimes we lose our line of sight,

Our vision of the goal,

And in these times, we often feel,

We’ve lost our greater whole.

And while it’s dark, we cannot see,

The path before our eyes,

And so we trip, and then we fall,

And not with much surprise.

And it can seem, so very bleak,

Being lost within the night,

That we lose belief, in what is true,

The path, towards the light.

Because change is part of life, you know,

And everything happens for a reason,

And maybe we’re in the cold right now,

But that is just the season.

So when we feel, that brief despair,

Whenever we look back,

We have to turn our eyes ahead,

And get ourselves on track.

Because there’s a Plan, that guides our steps,

In many subtle ways,

And life will find a way again,

And with it, spirits raise…

So take heart, my friend, in every day,

And hope in all you do,

For spring will come, and summer days,

And joy will come… to you.

For the strength it takes to achieve our potential…

Forever

Standard

Spend no time on yesterday,

That’s all within the past,

Look instead, to where you’re going,

And make those days all last.

Be present for, the smallest things,

The time within your day,

Enjoy the life, in every breath,

Don’t give them all away.

Find the light, the coming dawn,

A day begun anew…

Feel the peace, that rests inside,

The journey, that is you.

For in hope, we find, a greater strength,

The power of what can be,

The ability to, define ourselves,

To set our spirits free.

Because the hope that rests, in simple things,

Like the beauty of a smile,

Can give us all the strength it takes,

To journey for many miles.

And when we let ourselves be free,

Our souls lighter than a feather,

We’ll fly away, to a better place,

The joy of our forever

For the possibilities that come with each day to redefine our tomorrows…

Morning Light

Standard
When the dark of night is through,
The day begins, the light renews,
I close my eyes, and take a breath,
And clear the noise, that’s in my head.

I hear the songs of birds around,
The gentle leaves, the peaceful sounds,
Whatever happened yesterday,
It’s in the past, not here today.

And what will come, we’ll have to see,
And what a day, this just might be,
If all I do is take a step,
And find some hope, release that breath.

And remember that God, has His plan,
Beyond control of any man,
And if we simply trust that light,
We’ll know that things will be alright.

And this day can a special one,
Filled with hope, for everyone,
And all we need, is a little faith,
To seize that joy, within this day.

Explore

Standard

Pack your back, charge your phone,
Head out, and just explore
Clear away the current noise,
…Prepare for what’s in store.

Find the space, within your mind,
To set your fears aside,
Take a breath, take that step,
Leave those thoughts behind.

Find a place you’ve never been,
That soothes your troubled soul,
Feel the beauty in every day,
Make your spirit whole.

Look around, be at peace,
Take in the morning light,
Feel the Sun, rise again,
Ushering out the dark of night.

Feel the hope, that’s always there,
The day began anew,
With all the things that could just be,
Just waiting there for you.

Seize the chance, where you are,
Stop rushing, and just “be”.
Find the calm within your mind,
Set your spirit free.

Journey on, find a path,
See all that is around,
Know that you will never fly,
With your feet upon the ground.

Welcome change, as it comes,
Cross the bridge in sight,
It’s part of what makes life sublime,
Have faith, it will be alright.

Know that you’ve done your part,
To expand your field of view,
And tomorrow will be another day,
With hope and joy for you.

So go, my friend, and find that road,
Journey on until tomorrow,
And soon that smile, will rule the day,
And wash away your sorrow.

For the times we need to clear our minds, take a step, and follow the path forward…

Mist

Standard

When the morning mist is there,
With a fog, that’s in the air,
The Sun is often hard to see,
The day begins, just partially…

And if you feel then, lost in dread,
Remember that, it’s in your head,
And when those clouds give way to light,
Please know that things will be alright…

And there’ll be times, you lose your view,
But there’s nothing that, you need to do,
So chase those worries and fears away,
Cause hope is borne in each new day.

And peace will find its way to you,
Just take those steps, and move on through,
And even if it takes a while,
Please know, my friend, you’ll find your smile.

For the days we need to breathe and have faith that things will be ok in time.

If Only I Spoke Cat

Standard

It’s only a matter of time, I suppose, when you live with two small, furry psychopaths, that something is bound to happen that makes you wonder what they are thinking.  I’m not suggesting that I’d actually like to know of course because, if history is any indication, they may both want to kill me at any given time for the stuff they do, and I don’t need to be any more paranoid than I probably already am.

The point is that, having returned from my recent trip to Atlanta, I fully expected I would be met with two things:

  • A utility room that had been messed up from their several days being limited to that area
  • Stormy making an incredible amount of noise for an extended period of time

This return home was, as you’d expect, no disappointment and they delivered on expectations brilliantly.  The utility room wasn’t exactly a disaster, but it did need the normal sweep and Swiffer mop run to get back to a semblance of normal.  Stormy, on the other hand… well… he clearly had a lot to say.

From the minute I arrived and for over thirty minutes straight thereafter, he unloaded a non-stop series of meows that seemed like it may never end.  This, coupled with him following me everywhere I went around the house, seemed to bespeak a need to communicate something, which got me thinking: “What if he actually WAS trying to communicate something and I just lack the ability to understand his frantic monologue in cat speak.”

The end consequence, of course, was that I thought it might help to toss out a few potential scenarios of what he was trying to say over the course of that half hour, from a few different perspectives, and see if any of them upon review seemed to explain the mania that was clearly going on.

“Where the Hell have you been?”

The first thought that comes to mind is sheer panic and insecurity… Stormy is basically giving me an earful for being gone for a few days.  “You bastard! Where have you been?!?!” Followed by a series of stories that he was worried, stayed up all night, couldn’t eat for days, thought he made it VERY clear when I was leaving that I was to be home by midnight… something along those lines.

Stormy in a parenting role was going from being annoyed and angry to an emotional wreck… how could I do this to him, heartless jerk that I am, leaving him with his brother, expecting that (and their normal 15+ hours of sleep every day) to cover them.  The horror, the horror… in true Marlon Brando, Apocalypse Now fashion.  The nerve of some humans… how dare I?

And he is following me saying “Are you listening to me? Don’t you walk away from me!  I’m talking to you!” which, of course, sounds like “meow…meow…meow…” but he seems content with whatever the hell is coming out of his mouth.

Annoyed and distraught?  Possibly…

“Do you have any idea what he was doing?”

The second possibility is that he’s decided to take on the role of confidant, NARC, and tattle tale.  Lucky did something, like… trash the room… and now that I’m home, he’s going to tell on his little brother.  “You won’t believe what this little bastard did.  You remember how you left with all the litter in the box?  Well, yeah, he said ‘screw the human’ and proceeded to spread that shit all over the room.  I was there.  I saw him.  I told him you’d be so mad and I was going to tell, but he did it anyway.  He didn’t even care.  You aren’t going to take that are you?  Are you?”

I suppose it’s possible that, with the disaster that had occurred Stormy was entirely innocent.  He could be chasing me in an attempt to both implicate his little brother and exonerate himself from any potential consequences of their heinous wrongdoings.  Nothing gives me a sense there is such a thing as cat loyalty given the number of times they knock each other deliberately off the cat tree.  It’s all about who gets that top pedestal and it doesn’t matter how long the other guy has been there (or how comfortable he is) when the other one wants it.

Stormy the informant?  Sure… I can wrap my head around that, especially because Lucky is probably the most destructive cat in the history of fur beasts.

“I’ve got a great idea!”

The only possible other option is that, given the incredible feat of engineering involved in the time that the cats built an invisible mechanical device that lifted the fireplace grating over several blocks of wood in the old house, he had a Nobel prize-level epiphany and he needed to tell me about it.  Cats having no appreciable longer-term memory, that might actually be a matter of simple practicality as if he was like that Guy Pierce character who forgot everything ten seconds later in Memento. “Hey, I’m SO glad you’re back.  You won’t believe this.  You remember that cold fusion bullshit hype thing from like twenty years ago?  Well, here’s the thing… Since you left us like an ungrateful, heartless ass for all this time, I got to thinking… what if I could use our drinking water, some cat litter, a hacked up furball… and, anyway, long story short… make a cold fusion device, blow up the house and get me and Lucky out of here?  I know, that probably sounded a little harsh, but you weren’t here, you know… and we only had enough food for the next three months, so I had to plan ahead.  You understand right?  Anyway, can you maybe write this down, because I don’t have opposable thumbs, you know, and I’m pretty sure I’d be the first cat ever to win the Nobel Prize in Physics… Hey, seriously, don’t walk away.  I need you to write this down before I forget.  This is serious…”

Yeah, ok, maybe that’s not a very likely situation.  Cats are morons after all, and given Stormy would rather smack his head into the container to release more food than just reach with his paw and get it out, something about a cold fusion device feels a little like a stretch…

Anyway, the point is that I really have no idea why he would continue to go off for over a half hour, but if I had the ability to understand his ranting cat speak, would the result be anything good?  Perhaps.

On the other hand, I suppose if he literally was just saying “you asshole…” over and over again, maybe I don’t really want to know.  Ignorance is bliss.

Dawn

Standard

Before the light,
There’s only dark,
The streets are empty,
The cold is stark.

I start my walk,
Am on my way,
It’s time to go,
Begin the day.

It’s quiet here,
Without a soul,
The world is empty,
It’s far from whole.

The silence is there,
It’s all around,
And people and things,
Are nowhere to be found.

And then it starts,
The light creeps in,
A day is coming,
About to begin.

The skies fill up,
With wonderous hues,
Of purples, and reds,
Mixed in with the blue.

And God looks down,
You can feel Him smile,
The perfection that it is,
It must’ve taken a while.

And light creeps up,
And fills up the skies,
While I know not to look,
It dazzles my eyes.

And I draw a deep breath,
As I look towards the Sun,
Of the hope that is new,
With the day just begun.

And I know that I’ll find,
His path laid for me,
I’ll just keep on walking,
And one day I’ll be free.

And until that day comes,
I’ll greet each new day,
And thank the good Lord,
That I’m finding my way.

For when we give in,
And trust Him above,
We’ll learn of the power,
That rests in that love.

And time will show us,
That path will be clear,
So take in that daylight,
There’s nothing to fear.

For the hope and possibility that can come with each new day.

Beginning

Standard

Look ahead,
It’s time to go,
What’s in store?
I hardly know.

What I see,
A trip ahead,
What I feel,
Is far from dread.

My eyes are wide,
The future bright,
Behind the dark,
Ahead is light.

I close my eyes,
And feel the calm,
That sense of peace,
And no alarm.

To leave behind,
That bitter weight,
And look towards,
A better state.

I draw a breath,
I let it out,
To find my smile,
Is what it’s about.

And no matter what comes,
When I take flight,
My heart will know,
That I’ve done right.

For it’s better to lean,
Towards a goal,
Than sacrifice time,
And not be whole.

So when I wake,
I’ll find my way,
And it will be,
Another day.

And life will find,
A way to heal,
And joy will be,
The thing I feel.

For the moments we step outside our comfort zone, explore, and find our truth.
